Patterned or plain. Roller or carry. Years of use. It's the Backpack Dilemma. Having had Kelty and Lands' End in years past, we rounded up the bags that we are contemplating. With our six kids and the supplies from our Third Grade list, we tested size, quality and the do-you-like-it factor. Overall, those over $50 showed in quality, with Northface as a standout for older kids. When it came to patterns, Hanna Andersson and Mini Boden got the kids excited. The two younger boys immediately picked Mini Boden's pirates (we didn't have the girls floral which is darn cute). Hanna Andersson's prints drew every girl in, and they flipped over the roller option. Is it the novelty? Holly's oldest had a roller last year and it ended up being cumbersome and the handle broke. Just can't do the roller, sorry girls. We moms are partial to Sweden's iconic Fjallraven and Serena & Lily's Puffer from New Zealand. All five fit the school supplies, with the puffer as the only one unable to hold the lunchbox. We've got ours picked, now is your turn. SHOP BOYS' BACKPACKS > SHOP GIRLS' BACKPACKS >
