Rikshaw Design is known for its ethereal, block-printed fabrics and easy, bohemian style. We’re thrilled to carry Rikshaw’s new line that includes summer-ready tunics, sundresses, baby blankets and beachwear in vibrant hues of yellow, blue, and violet. We asked Rikshaw founder Catherine Fitzsimmons to tell us more about her colorful Spring/Summer collection.
What was the inspiration behind the 2013 collection?
We are always inspired by beach destinations, especially Hawaii and Mexico. This year’s color palette of citron, violet, seafoam, and coral, look like a sorbet shop when layered all together. All of the clothing, for women and children, are meant to throw on as lightweight covering for warm summer days.
How are your distinctive designs created?
The patterns are created and inspired by so many things in our everyday lives, such as nature, art, and photography. We work closely with a block printer in India to hand carve the designs in wooden blocks, which are then used for all our prints. This year’s patterns are a mix of floral, new geometrics, and our favorite whimsical animals!
What is a perfect baby shower gift set for the first-time mother?
I think our favorite baby shower gift has to be the taj blanket. It is a perfect size for the stroller or play. The blanket can work in the baby’s life, regardless of their room decor. The monkeys and elephants are too sweet next to a brand new baby.
