Shopping Small Business Saturday in San Francisco (and online)
Buying local has been popular but it’s become more of a mission for people like me. Whether it’s finding the most delicious local latte in Ashland, Oregon (by the way, it’s  Case Coffee Roasters) or best handmade ceramics in San Francisco, it’s about discovering and supporting local artisans. Here is list of my go-to’s for shopping small.

Dandelion Chocolate
When in San Francisco, a must-see is Dandelion Chocolate in the Mission District. I take visitors to their cafe for thick hot chocolate (sip only), homemade s’mores and seasonal chocolate bars. And their beautifully wrapped 3-bar gift set makes the perfect gift for foodie or chocolate-loving friends.

The Foggy Dog
Another San Francisco vendor, Foggy Dog creates sustainable beds and accessories for the discerning pet owners. The bandanas were a hit with my daughter who insisted we get one for our two new puppies.

MMClay
With a studio in my favorite neighborhood in San Francisco, Hayes Valley, and next door to Blue Bottle Coffee, you’ll find rustic handmade ceramics by Mary Mar Keenan. You may have seen her dishes if you’ve dined at The Progress, a local favorite. The pottery looks and feels like a mix of traditional and modern Japanese. And the unique color palette goes well with our other dishes, especially Heath Ceramics.

Olive Manna
A whimsical shop of handmade paper goods and little treasures, like vintage bingo chips and skinny twill ribbon, that help make packaging gifts extra special.

UBI-Ind Denim
I first met denim denizen, Ulrich “Ubi” Simpson, at the 38Makers Holiday Fair at the Pinterest office in San Francisco. While is best known for his stylish and durable denim designs, his kitchen collection was featured at the fair. I love the versatility and wash-friendly qualities of denim, especially in tableware. I ended up buying a dozen napkins for my family’s daily use… and just in time! Our 10-year-old linen napkins are falling apart.

Urban Farm Girls
Local garden designers who carry the best living wreaths. Their Insta-ready wreath designs make wonderful gifts for hosts as well as your own home. For my kids, I purchased each of them a modern air plant sconce. They like the minimalist look as well as the easy care instructions to spritz once a week.
