On your marks, get set, go!
It’s never too early to start thinking about your next family getaway. Whether you’re making plans or just saving ideas for spring break, summer vacation or a mini-break, Kid & Coe makes it fun and relaxing to search for the best family rentals around the world. Take the worry out of spending your holiday in a never-big-enough hotel room and book a vacation rental with lots of room to roam. At Kid & Coe you’ll find properties that cater to the entire family, they think of space for you to relax with a cup of coffee and a good book while the kids play in the pool or by the creek. I find it easy to picture this scene, especially with all the beautiful images on their site. All the properties are carefully curated for amenities, such as kids bikes and highchairs, and location location location, including nearby beaches, amusements parks and Tate’s Cookies (yum!). Get ready for a year full of fantastic family adventures with these insights from our friend Laura Hall, at Kid & Coe.
Wide vistas, mountains, glassy lakes and those moose – head over the border to the most talked-about destination for 2017. This year sees Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation with events around the country making it even more appealing. Our properties in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto include loft apartments, townhouses and cabins plus all the amenities to help your family feel at home. Toronto’s annual March Break has plenty of family events including theatre, play spaces and maple syrup tasting. See Vacation Rentals
Insider Tip: Go local and try Canadian foods with the kids – poutine (French fries topped with gravy and cheese), pancakes, Montreal-style bagels and Nanaimo bars are all a good bet.
2. THE UNITED KINGDOM
The Pound’s fall has been the dollar’s gain. Where better to roam fairytale castles, eat Cornish pasties, play in the forest, and walk Paddington Bear’s favorite streets? We’d thoroughly recommend Edinburgh, London, and Cornwall (pictured) as stellar places to take the kids this year. See Vacation Rentals in Scotland and England
Insider Tip: Get active. Little Ol’ England might be known for its culture and castles, but try mountain bike trails, surf schools, treetop adventure playgrounds and coastal hiking routes to see another side of the country together.
Sunshine, beaches, rugged coastline and stunning modern interior design – Portugal is one of Kid & Coe’s favorite countries in Europe and it’s time the rest of the world knew it. Lisbon’s cobbled streets (pictured) and red roofs make great pictures, and its aquarium has been voted the best in the world, complete with an enormous sunfish and cuddly sea otters. From city pads to architect-designed villas in the middle of the Alentejo’s dark sky zones, our Portugal properties get a thumbs up for 2017. See Vacation Rentals
Insider Tip: Try every form of transport you can in Lisbon just for fun – the kids will love it. The yellow tram, the bus, the funicular, you name it…
We’ve lost count of the number of dream properties we’ve added in Greece in the last year. The land of Odysseus, olives and ouzo is a perfect place for easy family holidays – just add sunshine. From islands including Mykonos, Paros, Naxos and Crete to mainland spots near ancient ruins, and the cultural treasures of Athens, we have properties in all corners of the country to suit all ages, budgets and groups. Whitewashed with natural stone walls, modern design with custom-shaped swimming pools or rustic and in the hills with a view of the sea, these properties are a destination in their own right. See Vacation Rentals
Insider Tip: A multi-stop ferry trip around Greece is the type of trip family legends are made of – ferries sail from Athens’ harbours in the summer months and give you the chance to island hop around different spots, just for fun.
We increasingly see our family visitors decide that a stay in Brooklyn would be more fun than one in Manhattan. Maybe they’ve been to Manhattan a few times before and want a change, or maybe they’ve heard the news about how family-friendly Brooklyn, its parks, restaurants and museums are and want to try it for themselves. We constantly see Williamsburg, Park Slope and Fort Greene come up as super desirable destinations for families in the city and can’t disagree on any level. See Vacation Rentals
Insider Tip: The Brooklyn Flea is held every weekend from April to October in Fort Greene and is a great place to encourage your kids to buy a kooky souvenir. It’s not just about antiques and bric-a-brac, there are also food stalls, entertainment and seasonal specials too.
6. THE HAMPTONS
Don’t file this one under ‘when I’m a billionaire’ – the Hamptons with kids is more than possible, especially if you can gather a few families together. Many of Kid & Coe’s properties sleep multiple families, have great gardens and a private pool, and are a short cycle to the nearest beach. What could be easier than a few weeks spent in the sunshine with friends? To celebrate World Elephant Day in 2017, a parade of 75 elephant sculptures will be making its way across the area as the must-see family art exhibition of the summer. See Vacation Rentals
Insider Tip: Bay beaches are a great option with little ones. Not only do they have calm waters, but even in peak season you stand a chance to find somewhere to park and a quieter experience.
