Plaid Trend Fall 2015

28 Ways to Accessorize Plaid

I’m mad for plaid, and it’s back this fall in kids fashion. Plaid has always been one of my favorite fall trends and one that never seems to go out of style (thank goodness). Think of fun and festive ways to accessorize these rich tartans and bold checks for a classic look as well as something unexpected, even modern. Here are a few favorites…

Pippa Plaid from Bella BlissClockwise from top right:  Girls’ Caroline Cardigan Sweater, J.Crew  ||  Ambrosie Coco Coat, Macarons  ||  Bastille Leather Mary Janes Pink, Little Mary  ||  Angora Hair Tie, H-Luv  ||  Pale Pink Faux Fur Gilet, ilovegorgeous  ||  Acorn Pouch, Manimal  ||  “Ultra Girl” Kitty Velcro Mary Jane in Silver Glitter, Mini Melissa  ||  Willa Dress, Bella Bliss

I love the shades of green in Pippa plaid, it reminds me of pistachios and green apples. If you’re looking for a late summer tartan that will easily transition into fall, Pippa plaid is the answer. The balance of soft and dark colors flow nicely from season to season. For the Willa Dress, add a lightweight cardigan and, as the weather cools, switch to a fuzzy gilet or festive coat. Finish the look with pink or silver shoes.

Bella Bliss Royal PlaidClockwise from top right:  Cream Ferrer Hat, Stella McCartney Kids  ||  Ribbed Cardi-Indigo, Oeuf  ||  Handmade Lambswool Baby Boots, LilAussieShoeCo   ||  Monster Two-Tone Socks, Emile et Ida  ||  Electric Blue Leather Lace Up Boot, Akid  ||  3 Pack Luxe Baby Sock, White + Warren   ||  Boucle Baby Cardigan-White, Oeuf  ||  Beau Bubble, Bella Bliss

Plaid baby clothes are just the cutest. For the Beau Bubble in Royal plaid, go big –  not boring – with purple and yellow accents. These blue crisp checks can handle bright and fun accessories, including fancy boots and a pom-pom hat.

Barringer Plaid Bella BlissClockwise from top right:  Embellished Pompom Fur Headband in Emerald, Bari Lynn  ||  Girls’ Pixie Pant, J.Crew  ||  Mary Jane Shoes, Camper Kids  ||  Skinny Cords, Hanna Andersson  ||  Brule Brocade, Old Soles  ||  Uni-Form, Dagmar Daley  ||  Kanken Backpack, Fjallraven  ||  Cece Top, Bella Bliss

Not ready for full-body plaid? Keep it simple with the Cece Top in Barringer plaid with outfit-friendly bands of blue and green. Wear with a favorite pair of blue jeans and a lively headband or go bold with yellow cords (yes, you can mix textures). Either way, this pretty plaid will shine through.

Bella Bliss Cambridge PlaidClockwise from top right: Black Felt Cat Hat, Little Marc Jacobs  ||  Red Bolero, Monnalisa  ||  Red Cat Ear Shoes, Mini Melissa  ||  Off White Pearl Headband, Love made Love  ||  Black Quilted Ballet Pumps, Pretty Ballerinas  ||  Blue Chunky Scarf, Stella McCartney Kids  ||  Red Velvet Bow Headband, David Charles  ||  Bibby Dress, Bella Bliss

Cambridge plaid always reminds me of the holidays: gingerbread houses, teddy bear teas and the Nutcracker Ballet. The traditional check pattern looks perfect with black ballet pumps and a special Christmas coat. Looking for something different? Add a modern twist with a stylish bolero and playful cat ear shoes, for the cat’s meow.
